The session will discuss: Public policies that create incentives to develop new or renewed economic activities in rural land, in a sustainable way. Policies to foster governance models that close the gap between multiple jurisdictions, bringing communities closer to the planning process, promoting economic growth which in turn makes rural land more managed and less prone to landscape fires. Pedro Lencart is currently Managing Director at Antarr Sustainable Produtive Forests. Graduated in forestry engineering and holding an MSc in Microbiology by the University of Kent at Canterbury, he is experienced in forest management and spent is professional career in different forest projects in Portugal, Uruguay, Spain and Eastern Europe, namely Poland and Romania.

Biography

Dr. Jelle Behagel is an associate professor based at the Forest and Nature Conservation Policy Group (FNP) of Wageningen University, the Netherlands. His expertise is on the politics of forest and nature governance, employing political discourse analysis as a research method. Jelle carries out research on global forest and biodiversity governance, sustainable landscape governance, zero deforestation commitments, and political and emotional responses to wildfires. He is active in several international and national collaborative projects that aim to understand how global governance structures interact with local practices and local experiences, and how such interactions shape forest and nature conservation across the globe. Jelle teaches multiple courses on political and social theory of forest and nature conservation and is the coordinator of the special Master track on Sustainable Development Diplomacy (SDD). He also chairs the central participation body of Wageningen University & Research, called the WUR Council.

EX PRESIDENT OF THE GOVERNMENT OF SPAIN; PRESIDENT OF THE FELIPE GONZALEZ FOUNDATION Born in Seville in 1942, he is one of the key political figures in the history of Spain in the second half of the 20th century. His political career began in 1962, when he joined the Socialist Youth. In 1964, he joined the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE), then a clandestine party. He was elected secretary general of the PSOE at the 1974 Suresnes congress, remaining in office until 1997. Third President of the Spanish Government between 1982 and 1996 since the reinstatement of democracy in 1978. Leading protagonist of Spain's democratic transition and responsible for the modernization of Spain and its full integration into Europe during his years in office. At the end of 2016, he launched the Felipe González Foundation, with the aim of making his documentary archive available to all citizens in addition to organizing and supporting activities and projects that contribute to equal opportunities and offer tools to face the challenges of the 21st century as a society. Felipe González is a member of several institutions and foundations, either as an honorary member or as a trustee. He has also been awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Christ of the Portuguese Republic, the Grand Gold Cross of Merit by the Republic of Austria, the Medal of Honor of Madrid, is a Knight of the Collar of the Order of Isabella the Catholic and is a Favorite Son of Seville and Andalusia, among other distinctions, in addition to being Doctor "Honoris Causa" by the Universities of Leuven, Toulouse and Tel-Aviv. He has also published several books, including Qué es. Socialism (1976), Memories of the Future. Reflections on the Present Time (2003), My Idea of Europe (2010) or In Search of Answers. Leadership in times of crisis (2013). In 2014 he was granted Colombian nationality and in 2022 Dominican nationality. The former president continues to be active in various current affairs in Europe and Latin America.

She has a degree in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra and a post-graduate degree in Food Quality and Safety Management from the Egas Moniz Higher Institute of Health Sciences. She was Mayor of Abrantes for 9 years and chaired the Intermunicipal Council of the Intermunicipal Community of Médio Tejo. He was also a member of the Monitoring Committee of the Centre Regional Operational Programme - Centre 2020 and of the Executive Committee of the Regional Entity of Tourism Centre of Portugal, also chairing the board of TecParques - Portuguese Association of Science and Technology Parks. Between 2015 and 2019 she was President of the District Commission for Civil Protection. She was Secretary of State for Regional Development, since February 2019, of the XXI Constitutional Government and Minister of Agriculture of the XXII Constitutional Government.
