Design of a methodology to evaluate the carbon balance in the conservation of carbon sinks by the action of the aerial section of the forest fire extinguishing devices. Objectives The main objective is to establish the objective technical bases that allow quantifying the safeguarding of carbon sinks through the action of forest fire extinction devices, analyzing the balance of the participation of aerial extinction resources. Methodology. Phases. Deliverables PHASE 1. First version of the work methodology, including all the parameters to be evaluated: ● Correla􀆟on between fuel models in widespread use at the interna􀆟onal level and forest plant formations for the categorization of those as carbon sinks. ● Evalua􀆟on and categoriza􀆟on of forest fires as carbon emission agents. ● Quan􀆟fica􀆟on of the damage avoided by the action of aerial means for the most common extinguishing strategies (automatic dispatch and extended attack) and correlation with the carbon emissions derived from the participation of aircraft in the extinguishing device. ● End balance Estimated date of completion of phase 1: Second fortnight of June 2022. Deliverables: draft methodology document. PHASE 2. Final methodology and results obtained from its application to the forest territory and to the Andalusian Forest fire extinguishing device. NOTE: The final methodology will take into account the casuistry of the territories in which PEGASUS carries out its activity, although in order to obtain specific results for different countries or regions, adjustments may be required derived from the availability of data and the extinguishing devices themselves. . This proposal does not include the application of the methodology to territories other than the Andalusian Autonomous Community.
